What have you done today to lower your impact?

We are washing away the foundations of our existence on every front. It is high time we move from crashing about on the planet like a bull in china shop and find a way to go forward with intent. We must find systems of living based on sustainability. The systems and tools exist, it is up to each of us to adopt them.

So plainly and simply explained that even a child could understand. Sadly most of the western world seems to be in complete denial......

Your're right, denial is prevalent but I wonder how many have even heard of Peak Oil. I'm constantly amazed to meet people I generally consider to be quite aware who know nothing of it!

I find the most common responses to any mention of Peak Oil are "they will find more oil, there's more to be found" or "they will make fuel from crops". Little awareness of oil being a finite resource, little awareness that turning over fields to biofuels will result in starvation and escalate climate change, little awareness that even if there is still oil in the ground then it will become ridiculously expensive to extract. I am worried for my kids' future (and my own!) and cannot understand why so few people seem oblivious to the reality that awaits us.

I meant to say "why so MANY people seem oblivious to the reality that awaits us" .......

Is there a transition initiative in your area? If not perhaps you might want to look at getting one started. I'm convinced it is one viable way forward, after all we MUST find a sensible way forward.

I shall do some research...... Like many I am trying to do little bits here and there to become greener and live a more sustainable lifestyle but, as I highlight on my blog (a couple of posts back) I fail the test. I know I need to make major changes to my lifestyle and blogs like yours are very helpful - thank you.

We all have work to do, but even the smallest step towards sustainability is a step in the right direction. What is important is that we take that next step, and the next, and the next.......
Everyone's journey is different. Once you have taken that first step you are not failing.
