What have you done today to lower your impact?

We are washing away the foundations of our existence on every front. It is high time we move from crashing about on the planet like a bull in china shop and find a way to go forward with intent. We must find systems of living based on sustainability. The systems and tools exist, it is up to each of us to adopt them.

New Urbanism vs. Suburbanism

While James Howard Kuntsler calls the suburbs "the greatest misallocation of resources in human history" the New Urbanists are working for a new vision for livable cities. I don't believe that we should be building suburban sprawl any longer but we can capitalize on the existing situation. I see a the lawns of American suburbia, after having lived in the very walkable city of Sheffield England with it's tiny garden plots, as a wonderful opportunity to grow local food.
